SATA SSDs run on a 6 Gb/s SATA link that SAS and SATA controllers and backplanes all accept, which makes them the most widely compatible flash in a server. Choose the 3.84TB S4520 for the largest read-intensive volume a SATA bay can hold: backup staging, media and archive tiers. Random writes drop to 31K IOPS at this capacity, so keep write-heavy duty on a mixed-use drive such as the S4620. On a SAS array the Samsung PM1643a 3.84TB or Kioxia PM7-R 3.84TB gives the faster SAS link. Hardware AES-256 encryption is built in.
