New Kioxia 7.68 TB CD8P-R U.2 NVMe SSD, a PCIe 5.0 read-intensive capacity drive on BiCS FLASH TLC for NVMe-wired bays in Dell 14th, 15th and 16th gen servers. U.2 NVMe SSDs connect over four PCIe lanes instead of through a SAS or SATA controller, so they need an NVMe-wired bay and backplane; a SAS or SATA bay cannot run them. They are the low-latency, high-IOPS tier for databases, virtualization and caching, and a PCIe 4.0 or 5.0 drive runs at the PCIe generation the host bay provides.

The 7.68 TB CD8P-R packs read-intensive capacity into dense NVMe chassis: object and file stores, analytics sets, large VM templates. At 1 DWPD it still absorbs 7.68 TB of writes a day, enough for most read-heavy pools. For heavy rewrite, the mixed-use CD8-V 12.8 TB carries 3 DWPD.
