New Kioxia 3.2TB 24G SAS SSD, a mixed-use PM7-V for the 2.5-inch SAS bays of Dell 13th to 16th gen and HPE Gen9 to Gen10 Plus servers. SAS SSDs are the enterprise flash tier for SAS backplanes: they use the same PERC, Smart Array and HBA controllers and the same bays as SAS hard drives, with the full-duplex SAS link and its error handling. They are the straightforward flash upgrade for an existing SAS array.

Compatibility

This is a SAS drive: it needs a SAS controller and SAS backplane, and a SATA-only controller cannot run it. The 24 Gb/s trap: on 12 Gb/s PERC, Smart Array and HBA controllers it negotiates down and runs at 12 Gb/s; 24 Gb/s needs a 24G-capable controller and backplane, the PERC 12 H965i class. In a 3.5-inch bay it needs a 2.5-to-3.5 adapter carrier. Dell 13th gen trays differ from 14th to 16th gen trays, and HPE uses its own carriers; we match the tray to your chassis. When to Choose This

Choose the PM7-V for mixed-use duty: OLTP databases, write-churning VM datastores, logging and cache volumes, where 3 DWPD and 340K random write IOPS hold up under sustained writes. For read-mostly volumes the read-intensive PM7-R 3.84TB gives more capacity at 1 DWPD. On a 12 Gb/s controller the link caps throughput, but the endurance rating is unchanged. This is the SIE (crypto erase) model, not an SED.
