Compatibility

A 2.5-inch SATA drive at 6 Gb/s: it runs on onboard SATA ports, SAS controllers and HBAs, and on SAS or SATA backplanes, since SAS controllers accept SATA drives, but not in an NVMe-only bay. Server bays need the carrier made for that chassis, and carriers differ by vendor and generation; we match the tray to your chassis. A 3.5-inch bay needs a 2.5-to-3.5 adapter carrier. When to Choose This

The 870 EVO 2 TB is budget capacity for read-mostly work: lab datastores, media libraries, workstation project drives. It holds 530 MB/s writes past its cache and carries 1,200 TBW, high for a client drive, but it lists no power-loss protection, so it is not for RAID write duty. The Samsung PM893 1.92 TB or Intel S4520 is the enterprise alternative.
