Dell PERC H345 Front RAID Storage Controller

Refurbished Dell PERC H345 Front, a cacheless 12 Gb/s RAID controller for the front PERC slot in Dell 15th gen PowerEdge servers. The PERC H345 is Dell's entry hardware RAID controller of the PERC 10 generation, built on the LSI 3416 RAID-on-chip with no cache. It covers mirrored boot and small data volumes in write-through mode.

Specifications

Compatibility

This is the front-mount H345: it installs in the dedicated front controller position and takes its host link and power through chassis cables, so it never consumes a PCIe slot and will not fit one. Those cables stay with the chassis. The card links at PCIe 3.0. Dell sets a minimum firmware of 50.9.1-2905 for the H345, so update older stock before deployment. Virtual disks from an H740P, H745 or H840 cannot migrate onto an H345; back up and rebuild instead. Browse matching parts for the Dell PowerEdge R650.

When to Choose This

The H345 does RAID 0, 1 and 10 only; RAID 5 and 6 need the H745 or H755. That suits boot mirrors and small RAID 10 data sets. With no cache it runs write-through, so we do not quote it for write-heavy databases or VM datastores; the H745 with 4 GB NV cache covers those. For pure pass-through to vSAN or ZFS, the HBA355i is the cleaner choice.
